Note: this taxon list is still under construction. It does not yet contain all known Ruellia inflata clade subgroups.

Containing group: Ruellia s. l.

Introduction

The Ruellia inflata clade contains species having red or greenish-yellow flowers. Those with the latter have floral morphologies suggestive of bat-pollination, though next to nothing is known about their pollination biology.

Members of this group occur in South America, especially in Brazil and Venezuela. Three species in this clade are also scrambling vines or lianas which is an unusual habit in Ruellia.

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
