Characteristics
Melophorus has the characteristics of the Formicini with the following exceptions (Bolton 2003):- 3-6 teeth on masticatory margin of mandible
- Eyes often close to midlength
- Reduced double row of setae on ventral metatibia
- Asepalous proventriculus
