Containing group: Carabidae Conjunctae

Introduction

This is a small group of diverse, Southern Hemisphere carabids.

Monophyly of Amblytelini and relationship to Psydrini

This group of carabids is clearly monophyletic, as indicated by both morphological (Baehr, 1999) and molecular (Maddison et al., 1999) data. The molecular data is particularly compelling.

These beetles have typically been placed with the Psydrini, but there seems to be no evidence available for such a relationship (Baehr, 1999; Maddison et al., 1999).

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
